  1. Crab joint defines eating in the 'ruff'

Bottom of the Bay, the venerable (since 1972) crab joint-cum-seafood restaurant on Route 1 in Laurel, is not easy to describe. It's a one-story, two-room structure that defines what Maine lobster purveyors up "nawth" call "eating in the ruff." That is,...

  3. Restaurant review: Lenny's Deli makes the most of Inner Harbor locale

Chances are, a deli that's been in business for 26 years has little left to prove. And with a second shop that's survived competition on a stretch of Lombard Street known as Corned Beef Row, it's a fair bet that it belongs in the upper tiers of the delicatessen pecking order.

  7. Restaurant review: Koco's, the quintessential neighborhood pub

Sociologists looking for the quintessential neighborhood pub would be smart to park themselves at <a href=&quot;http://findlocal.baltimoresun.com/listings/kocos-pub-baltimore">Koco's.</a>
Sociologists looking for the quintessential neighborhood pub would be smart to park themselves at Koco's. This family-owned tavern in Lauraville not only serves up good local fare — excellent crab cakes and juicy wings — it is also embedded...

  9. Art alongside food at Glass Grill in Baltimore

The brain works slowly in winter. There are dozens of beautiful art-glass pieces displayed behind the bar at the Glass Grill east of Highlandtown. There are two dazzling, enormous Dale Chihuly-inspired glass sculptures hanging from the Glass Grill's ceiling. If you ask your server about these sculptures, he'll tell you that the pieces were forged by Tim McFadden, and that you're welcome to stroll over with your beer to the adjacent glassworks, a converted garage, and watch him at work.

  11. Dining for $25 or less: Casey's

Casey's is a great little family restaurant, a real charmer, with a friendly and efficient staff and an accessible and affordable menu of pub fare and Italian-American specialties. Taken in from the road, where it lies just inside the Beltway, it doesn't look like much, just another county tavern. But it will take you about 10 seconds once inside the dining room to conclude two things: that the meal is going to turn out just fine and that everyone already eating there is a regular.

  13. Strength of Sanders' is its breakfast on the porch

No review of Sanders' Corner can start with anything but its fine covered porch overlooking the woods and fields surrounding Loch Raven Reservoir. Not for nothing do the servers wear T-shirts saying, &quot;Sanders' Corner: That Dam Place." Decked out with striped awnings, tile-topped tables, potted plants and ceiling fans, it's one of Baltimore County's best spaces for eating casually outdoors.

    Dining@Large

  17. Dining review: Big Daddy's offers better taste than its slogan

The slogan that Big Daddy's Fire Grill plasters on its menu doesn't offer much hope. &ldquo; We put excitement between your buns,&rdquo; the words blare over a photograph of a silver-eyeshadowed woman getting ready to bite into a massive burger. The man in the photo next to her reveals an expression somewhere between salacious and silly. Look man, I don't want you anywhere near my buns, but I'm willing to try your sandwiches.

  23. Restaurant review: Aw shucks, it's pure bliss at L&E Oyster Bar

I'm crazy for oysters, always have been. At Hog Island Oysters near Bodega Bay, I've been known to down three or four dozen at a time, all shucked, slowly, by me. Wherever I'm headed, you can be sure I've got the oyster bars mapped out ahead of time. So when news came that a new oyster bar was about to open across from LA Mill in Silver Lake, I was thrilled. Even sweeter, the partners in the new spot are Dustin Lancaster and Matthew Kaner, the duo that brought Los Feliz the quality wine bar Covell. That meant not only oysters, but also, in all likelihood, some seriously interesting wines to go with them.
