1. Quick suppers in 30 minutes can be healthy, too

Most every home cook has a particular approach to the weeknight meal. Some of us are really into doing ahead. Slow cookers are their thing. On the other hand, unless we're whipping up goodies for a dinner party, others of us can't bear the thoughts of...

3. Keeping toasty, inside and out, with fireside menus

Now that we've had a real taste of winter, and found out we're rather wimpy after all, we can give ourselves over to indoor entertaining with the cold months in mind. Our menus du jour will undoubtedly reflect our goal of fixing tummy warming treats for...

5. Restaurant review: The stars align on a Fells Point rooftop

The view from the Olive Room, the serenely seductive new penthouse restaurant at the Inn at the Black Olive, dazzles you senseless. Suddenly, Baltimore, seen from this fresh angle, looks like a European port city, vibrant and jagged, a starry skyline rising from waterfront promenades.

Sandra Lawler was all grown up and had left her Boston home before she realized that not everybody serves lamb on Easter.

9. Fine food at hip Eden's Lounge

Eden's Lounge is much better known as a nightclub, lounge and all-around posh gathering spot than as a restaurant. In a city where sexy, upscale clubs seem to come and go, Eden's Lounge has maintained. It's an especially beautiful club, too, making wonderful use of an old building's good bones (the Eager House used to be here) with an interlocking series of sumptuously exotic rooms, each offering different levels of cushiness and comfort. It's a club worth dressing up for, and on its Web site, Eden's Lounge tells its customers they had better do just that - "sophisticated and stylish dress a must."

15. An Asian approach to grilling: Part 2

Wolfgang Puck's Kitchen
Memorial Day is already a few days behind us, so many people are well on their way to forgetting they ever cooked meals indoors. The pleasures of grilling are so enticing: the casual ease of tossing your food onto the hot grid over an open fire; the sound...

21. Critic's Choice: Barbecue in Los Angeles

You probably know your barbecue: Bludso's in Compton for meaty beef ribs; sliced brisket from Phillips in Leimert Park; maybe farmers market fixture Bigmista's platter of pulled pork, ribs, brisket and links. But here are a few lesser-known spots to add to your list, in case of goat-barbecue, Korean-Chinese-mutton-skewer or Argentinian-parrillada cravings.

23. Dueling stews

You could argue about Irish stew all day. Folks have been for centuries. Or you could get on with it and make one for St. Patrick's Day. But which one?
You could argue about Irish stew all day. Folks have been for centuries. Or you could get on with it and make one for St. Patrick's Day. But which one? At its most basic, an Irish stew slow-cooks together meat, potatoes, onions and water. Dig into a...
