  1. Recipe Finder: Oven Puff Pancake

Alice Teel from Perry Hall is looking for a recipe for a puff pancake that she had lost. She remembered that a cast-iron skillet was put in the oven with butter to melt and then the batter was poured into the hot skillet and baked. When it was done,...

  3. From the harvest: Strawberry tart

The strawberries you find at area you-pick farms and farmers' markets bear no resemblance to that waxy fruit from the mega mart. They are smaller, uglier, and richer in color and flavor. They taste like a strawberry should taste. They are best if eaten immediately, paired with fresh whipped cream (my favorite way to eat them), but if you need to store them in the fridge, just place them in a plastic bag with a paper towel. Their flavor will change, but they will keep better than being out all night on the counter.

  11. Veggie burgers are heating up the burger wars

Everybody loves burgers. That's a fact of American life. Beef, turkey, chicken, or even fish—all have their ardent fans. Maybe it's because burgers are essentially finger food. A meal in a bun, if you will. Add some oven-baked fries or potato chips, and the simplest burger becomes a yummy indulgence.

  17. Restaurant Review: Steam pots shine at Plug Ugly's

Plug Ugly's Publick House is a strange name for a tavern. But Baltimore history buffs know the Plug Uglies were a thuggish street gang/political club that ran riot on Baltimore's streets in the 1850s. Don't worry. The newest resident of O'Donnell...

  23. Sizzle some steaks for Mother's Day

Your family may be the stay-at-home-on-the-holidays type. If that's the case, you might think breakfast in bed is just the thing to honor Mom on her day. But this year, why not ask her opinion? It's entirely possible that the female parental unit in your house would prefer dinner on the deck over breakfast in bed. Even if she has to fix some of that dinner herself.
