Tips lead Garden City police to arrest four teenagers in connection with vandalism at a new Menard's store.
The Garden City Police Department says Tuesday it received two tips about the weekend vandalism. Officers looked into the tips, and ended up arresting two 13-year-old boys, a 14-year-old boy and a 17-year-old boy.
Investigators say the four boys were riding their bicycles around Garden City Saturday night, and ended up at the Menard's. The building is currently under construction. Police say the boys rode their bicycle around inside the store, then used a forklift to spill hundreds of gallons of paint. Police say they also lit some cardboard boxes on fire.
The four teens were booked into the Southwest Kansas Juvenile Detention Center on suspicion of burglary, felony criminal damage to property, arson and conspiracy.
Police say the forklift also damaged two support beams for the building's roof, and they may have to be replaced. Contractors are still trying to determine whether or not the paint can be removed from the store's concrete floor.
