With the running talents of QB Tim Tebow leading the way, the Broncos did everything they could to not throw the ball against the Chiefs. Tebow completed only two passes in the game, although the second was a 56-yard touchdown throw to WR Eric Decker in the fourth quarter.
Denver was the first to put the points on teh board when Tebow ran for a touchdown on a 2nd-and-goal play from the Chiefs seven-yard line, taking the snap and picking his way behind his blockers to the end zone.
In the second quarter, the Broncos went 34 yards on eight plays before K Matt Prater hit a 38-yard field goal that pushed the score to 10-0. That's right where it stayed through intermission.
It was not until the third quarter that the Chiefs were able to mount a scoring drive. Taking over at their 35-yard line, the Chiefs needed eight plays and a coach's replay challenge to get into the end zone.
At the end of a 10-yard run, RB Dexter McCluster fumbled the football and the Broncos recovered as ruled by the officials on the field. But Chiefs coach Todd Haley threw his red flag and after reviewing the replay, it showed that McCluster's left knee was down before he fumbled.
Five plays later, Cassel connected on a 1-yard TD pass to FB Le'Ron McClain. The PAT kick from Ryan Succop cut the Denver lead to 10-7.
Matt Cassel was 13 of 28 for 93 yards and a touchdown for Kansas City (4-5), which followed up a 31-3 loss to previously winless Miami with another miserable showing at home.
But the Broncos got another TD on an eight-play, 80-yard drive that finished up with the 56-yard score from Tebow to Decker. With seven seconds to play, Chiefs K Ryan Succop hit a 32-yard field goal.
Game Notes: Tebow's first quarter TD run was the eighth in his two-year career, placing him second on the Broncos list of QB touchdowns, passing Jake Plummer. The all-time leader is John Elway with 33 TD runs ... Since 2000, the Broncos are now 45-1 when holding a 10-point or more lead at halftime ... Denver has a short time to celebrate, as they play this Thursday night against the New York Jets.
