VACAVILLE—The discovery of marijuana in an infant being treated at a hospital has led to the arrest of a Vacaville man.
Authorities with the Vacaville Police Department report 22-year-old Jonathan Velasquez was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child after the infant was being treated at an area hospital for ingesting a large amount of pot. A Vacaville Police investigation led detectives to conclude Velasquez was responsible for bringing the infant under the influence of the marijuana.
When FOX40's Dennis Shanahan knocked on the door of the Velasquez residence in south Vacaville, a woman who identified herself as the infant's mother answered the door. The mother didn't give her name, but did say the infant was doing well. Child Protective Services had taken the infant and another child from the Velasquez's home shortly after the infant's hospital visit, but our reporter indicated it appeared as if both children had been returned to the mother.
The infant's mother also revealed Velasquez is the father of the infant.
The Vacaville Police Department told FOX40 Velasquez admitted to using marijuana before.
"Mr. Velasquez, who was arrested this morning, was the sole person with the child and has admitted to consuming marijuana," Vacaville Police spokesperson Sgt. Charlie Spruill told FOX40.
Velasquez remains in Solano County jail on one count of felony child endangerment.
"Not only is it irresponsible, it's criminal, and Mr. Velasquez should be held accountable for his behavior," Spruill said.
