When you think snowboarding, you think Shaun White. You should start taking note of another name, though. Elena Hight.
At just 20 years old, the South Lake Tahoe resident is a force to be reckoned with. Elena Hight is getting ready for her second trip to the Winter Olympics as part of the U.S. Snowboard Halfpipe team. Hight's father taught her how to snowboard when she was 6. That's when her family moved from the sands of Kauai, Hawaii to the snow in the mountains. Her professional career began at age 14. She competed in the 2006 Winter Games when she was 16. Hight has won several competitions along the way to the 2010 Olympics. Her most recent accomplishment was winning Dew Tour Snowbasin.
Wednesday, Hight and her crew fly to Vancouver. She competes with her teammates on February 18th.
