Authorities say a man armed with a shotgun and a hatchet has been shot and wounded by Oakland police after he opened fire on several parked patrol cruisers.

says 25-year-old Nathaniel Reddick was shot late Saturday near police headquarters in downtown Oakland.
Police say Reddick rode up to the scene on a bicycle and began shooting at police vehicles, damaging at least six of them. He was confronted by a police sergeant and lieutenant, but refused to back down.
The lieutenant fired one shot, wounding the suspect. He was taken into custody.
Police say Reddick, of Sacramento
, is hospitalized with wounds not considered to be life-threatening.
