TRACY—Word of Melissa Huckaby's plea bargain spread quickly through Tracy on Monday, with few people holding back their anger and contempt for Sandra Cantu's killer.
"She really should rot in jail. She deserves it," said Tracy resident Beaver Davis.
"If she's guilty, I'm glad she pleaded guilty," said Orchard Estates resident Jackie.
Melissa Huckaby's mother, Judy, spoke exclusively with FOX40 off-camera and said her daughter's plea bargain would bring some closure to the family.
"She needed to take responsibility for what she did," said Judy, Melissa Huckaby's mom.
At Jacobson Elementary, Sandra's old school, there is a playground and garden that now bears her name. Sandra's principal, Cindy Sasser, says the unexpected plea deal has also helped her find closure.
"I think anytime we see it on tv, it does kind of bring it back in a sense, so now that there has been a plea given, that does help," said Sasser.
While Huckaby's guilty plea may bring closure to the Tracy community, everybody seemed to agree it wasn't going to bring Sandra back, " She didn't giver her a fair life. She had a full life to live and she did not give it to her. She deserves whatever she gets," said Tracy resident Beaver Davis.
