Sutter Davis Hospital in Yolo County has been fined $25,000 following code violations that carried the potential for endangering patients.

The California Department of Public Health announced administrative fines totaling $475,000 to seven hospitals -- including the hospital in Davis -- after determining the code violations were serious enough that they could have injured or killed patients.

According to a press release on its website, Sutter Davis Hospital "failed to implement its established policies and procedures for the safe and effective administration of medication."

The CDPH says this is the first violation for Sutter Davis Hospital.

Hospitals have ten days to appeal the penalties.

Kaiser Foundation Hospital in Fontana accrued $75,000 in fines w hile Southwest Healthcare System in Murietta faced $225,000 in fines.
