An off-duty Fresno police sergeant has been arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police Chief Jerry Dyer says an officer spotted Ron Hughes driving erratically a little after 1:30 a.m. Friday in southeast Fresno and pulled him over.
Dyer says the officer smelled alcohol on Hughes and administered a field sobriety test. Hughes was then arrested on suspicion of DUI and taken to a hospital for a blood sample.
He was booked into Fresno
County Jail and released about two hours later.
Dyer says Hughes will be on modified duty. He will be placed on leave if his driver's license is suspended.
Hughes, a 12-year veteran of the force, also faces an internal police investigation.
