VACAVILLE—A former sex crimes investigator for the Solano County District Attorney's office has been accused of a sex crime of his own.
Police say Jan Layfield sexually assaulted his girlfriend's 18-year-old disabled daughter.
"There was an incident of molestation that had been taking place for the last several months," Vacaville Police Sergeant Ian Schmutzler told FOX40 Thursday evening.
The victim's mother, who did not want to be identified by FOX40 News, told reporter Rowena Shaddox she walked in on Layfield performing sexual acts on her daughter Monday evening.
"There a lot of warning signs, and there's a lot of hush-hush things that goes on in the house that you've got to start speaking up about," the victim's mother said. "He worked the sexual crimes. He worked the abductions. And it was real close to home. And now it's too close to home."
Investigators say they don't believe Layfield victimized other indivuduals and are confident that Layfield does not pose a threat to others. As of Thursday evening, Layfield was released from the custody of Solano County on bail.
