KANSAS CITY, Missouri—
Melky Cabrera has been named the MVP of the 2012 MLB All-Star Game. He belted a 2 run blast that put the NL up 8-0.
The San Francisco Giants were well-represented in the game, with Matt Cain, Buster Posey and Pablo Sandoval starting the game.
Sandoval had a triple in the top of the first, an inning that saw the NL pull away early with a 5-0 lead.
Former St. Louis Cardinals manager Tony La Russa managed the NL team, coming out of retirement for last hurrah. His team won the 2011 World Series, but La Russa took some heat in the media, particularly in New York, for choosing Cain to start the game over R.A. Dickey of the New York Mets.
The Oakland A’s only sent one player, reliever Ryan Cook, to the midsummer classic.
