In a press conference Tuesday, Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson took the opportunity to give an update on his recent meeting with NBA Commissioner David Stern concerning the planned downtown sports and entertainment complex.
Johnson called the meeting "very productive."
"I think his [Stern's] one take-away is that we're serious in Sacramento about making this happen," said Johnson.
According to Johnson, Stern was "elated" that the Sacramento City Council voted to move forward on a plan to have public parking help fund the new arena.
"We probably have a long putt, but there's still a chance to really make this happen in Sacramento," the mayor continued.
The mayor said he’d travel back to New York to meet with Stern again, most likely during the second week in Jan. 2012.
