Mayor Kevin Johnson is one of the newest members of the National High School Hall of Fame, as announced Wednesday.
Johnson played point guard for Sacramento High School, and led the state in scoring back in 1983.
He went on to play for UC Berkeley, and was later a 3-time all-star for the Phoenix Suns.
Four area athletes have been inducted to the hall of fame, including Guy Anderson, Denise Curry, Debbie Meyer, and Karen Smith.
Sacramento High School became Sacramento Charter High School in 2003. Johnson worked as a community organizer before he was elected mayor back in 2008. He founded the St. HOPE Academy back in 1989, then formed the St. HOPE Public Schools system of charter schools in 2003.
