The raids happened Wednesday morning around Sonora. While medical marijuana is legal in California, there are specific guidelines that must be met to sell it, and the team says the business were operating outside the law.
"Because their sole purpose is to sell marijuana, they offer no other care, they provide no care services other than selling marijuana. The only difference is that you come to this dispensary building and purchase marijuana, other than buying it in a park or street corner," says Sgt. Craig Davis.
Armed with 17 search warrants, agents collected 20 pounds of pot ready for sale and $80,000 in cash. The pot had a staggering street value, "Marijuana that's cultivated indoors averages about $3200 per pound," Davis says.
