Mayor Kevin Johnson was the first person to legally drive down K Street at a ceremony Saturday that officially opened the area to more than just foot traffic.
The mayor and other city officials paraded down the street in vintage cars, which is appropriate because the last time cars were allowed on K Street was 1969.
"Everything looks wonderful," Sacramento resident Annette Miranda said.
City officials are hoping more people will notice and patronize the new and existing businesses along the stretch of K Street formerly closed to drivers.
With people driving through, city officials are also hoping the bad element moves on.
