SACRAMENTO—Thousands of people stood in line for hours in Sacramento for a chance to take a photo with the MLB's top trophy.
The San Francisco Giants are sharing their World Champions Trophy with Giants fans all over the state leading up to the 2011 baseball season.
"For more than 52 years, our dedicated fans have supported us through thick and thin," said Giants Managing General Partner and CEO Bill Neukom in a press release. "The trophy belongs to them as much as it belongs to us, and we want to thank our fans by extending the World Champions celebration throughout Giants country."
The trophy only spent one day in Sacramento, before being whisked away for an appearance in Redding, then it will come back to the area for a stop in Tahoe. Fans can see the trophy for free; a professional photographer will take your picture, which you can purchase online.
In addition to the below stops in California, Oregon and Nevada, the trophy is going to the Giants' Spring Training in Scottsdale, Arizona, and to New York City to pay tribute to fans on the east coast. It will also make a trip up to Troy, New York, where the team was originally founded, then on to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, New York. The tour will end at AT&T Park for the Giants' home opener on April 8th.
