A Stockton man, fearing for his family’s life, shot a burglar in the face early Sunday morning.
Alex Hernandez, heard a tap at his window and got into position.
He grabbed a gun and waited just outside of his 2-year-old daughter’s bedroom, when the intruder tried to climb through the window Hernandez says he fired once hitting the man in the face.
Stockton Police arrested 23-year-old Yobenrico Well a short time after he was shot.
Well admitted to trying to break in, and for successfully breaking in a few hours earlier, this is where the story gets very odd.
When Hernandez and his family were gone Saturday afternoon, the 23-year-old, whose sister lives across the street from Hernandez, broke into the home through the same window he tried to get into early Sunday morning.
Once inside Hernandez says the man made himself at home, eating their food, drinking their liquor, playing video games, and even changing their computers screen saver to a picture of a bunch of cheerleaders.
When Hernandez and his family got home around 10 p.m., the man was gone. Fearing he would come back, Hernandez says he borrowed a gun from a friend, the same one he used when Well came back around 3 a.m. Sunday morning.
Well is at San Joaquin General hospital in French Camp in critical condition.
The boyfriend of Well's sister tells FOX40 the 23-year-old suffers from schizophrenia and was not on his medication when he decided to break in to the neighbor’s home.
