Route information for the 2011 Amgen Tour of California
will be released as video segments Wednesday morning.
The host cities were announced in October, but now race officials will be releasing detailed information about each of the 8 stages of the 800+ mile race.
The list of host cities included some newcomers this year, including South Lake Tahoe, Northstar at Tahoe Resort, Squaw Valley, Auburn, Livermore, Claremont and Mt. Baldy. Missing from the list is Davis, which had been a staple on the race and has been called the bicycle capital of the U.S.
Being one of the host cities has it's perks, city leaders report a boost to their economy as cycling fans pour in from around the world, eat their food and stay in their hotels.
The 2011 race will kick-off on May 15th in South Lake Tahoe and end on May 22nd in Thousand Oaks. The specific route the participants will take to Northstar at Tahoe will be detailed in a video segment posted on the Tour's website Wednesday.
