BURBANK - A speeding driver of a red Mitsubishi Eclipse was taken into custody after a long chase which ended in a collision with a parked pickup truck near the Burbank Airport.
The pursuit began about 6 p.m. Monday in the Newhall area on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway, north of the Golden State (5) Freeway, said California Highway Patrol Officer Jose Nunez.
But the CHP gave up the pursuit because the driver was driving too recklessly while trying to elude authorities.
The driver drove at high speeds the wrong way, clipping cars, running red lights and nearly running down a pedestrian.
He drove into the Burbank Airport, again driving the wrong way.
Finally at Hollywood Way and Victory Boulevard he hit a car in the intersection, then
smashed into a parked pickup truck.
Burbank police, who had taken over the pursuit, took him into custody after tasering him.
