NEWPORT BEACH -- An experienced skydiver was killed when her parachute failed to deploy during a jump at a popular skydiving center in Riverside county over the weekend.

Brooke Baum, 33, of Newport Beach, was pronounced dead at 11:14 a.m. Friday at the scene of her 12,500-foot fall, in an open field in the 2000 block of Goetz Road, according to the Riverside County coroner's office.

Baum was skydiving at the Perris Valley Skydiving facility at Perris Valley Airport.

An autopsy was performed on Baum Sunday, but the results were not immediately released.

Online tributes describe Baum as a woman with "a huge passion for her friends, for helping people, for skydiving."

This marks the third skydiving fatality at the Perris Skydiving Facility since July and the fifth since March 2005.
