The shooting was reported around 9:30 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Laurel Ave. and Huntington Blvd.
Police say the victim was approaching the intersection on his bicycle when someone in a dark-colored vehicle opened fire, striking the teen.
Family members identified the teen as Jose Angel Dominguez.
A man who identified himself as the victim's brother told KTLA that he recognized the bicycle and then saw his brother's lifeless body lying on the ground.
The man also said his brother, a 10th grader at nearby Park West High School, had been having trouble with apparent bullies at school.
A neighbor told KTLA that the victim was a good person but recently had been "getting into these gangs."
The suspects are described only as two Latino males in a dark-colored 2010 Camaro.
