GLASSELL PARK, Calif. (KTLA) -- Two young sisters were hit by a car as they were crossing San Fernando Road in Glassell Park Friday night.

Both children, ages 6 and 14, were transported to USC Medical Center.

The older girl, who suffered a broken pelvis, broken leg and face trauma, was listed in serious but stable condition. The six-year-old suffered head trauma and was listed in critical condition.

Witnesses say the pair were crossing the street with their grandmother in a crosswalk in the 2600 block of San Fernando Road around 7:30 p.m. when they were struck by the vehicle.

Their grandmother was also injured and taken to the hospital.

The three were returning home from a trip to a local supermarket.

The driver was detained at the scene and given a field sobriety test.

He was arrested for DUI.

Neighbors say the crosswalk is dangerous because it is poorly lit.
