ALISO VIEJO, Calif. (KTLA) -- Sheriff's officials in Orange County are looking into a series of attempted kidnappings involving man who tried to lure underage girls into his car.
The incidents have been reported in Aliso Viejo and La Habra this week.
A 15-year-old girl was walking home from Aliso Niguel High School Wednesday afternoon when a man in a white van pulled up and attempted to lure her into his vehicle, officials said.
The man told the girl that her parents had been in a car crash and he was sent to pick her up.
The teen knew he was lying and began yelling to get the attention of passing motorists.
The man eventually got back into his van and drove off.
The suspect is described as Hispanic, in his 30s dark hair, dark moustache, wearing a T-shirt.
He was driving an older-model Dodge van with tinted windows.
Investigators are trying to determine whether the incident is connected to several other attempted abductions about 30 miles away in La Habra. In those cases, a man was seen driving a red vehicle as he approached teenage girls.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Orange County sheriff's officials at 1 (866)-tips-OCSD.
