The UCLA Black Alumni Association (UBAA) has teamed with Buffalo Wild Wings (Baldwin Hills) invites minority alumni and students for the UCLA vs. Rice Football season opener on Thursday, August 30th. In addition to the game, UBAA guests can reconnect, network, and raise funds to help combat the declining percentage of underrepresented minority students at UCLA since Proposition 209 passed in 1995. Proposition 209 prohibits state government institutions from considering race, sex and ethnicity in public employment, public contracting and public education.

In spite of the slight growth in minority admissions, African American enrollment at UCLA has declined. In 2012, 506 African American applicants were admitted to UCLA out of 4,087 applicants. However, only 216 African American students enrolled at the university, a 5% enrollment rate.

Immediately after the game, there will be a raffle and karaoke. Proceeds from food and the raffle at this event will benefit the UCLA S.H.A.P.E. community program, which provides tutoring, counseling and mentorship to inner-city high school students, and help fund the UBAA Legacy Scholarship Program.
