Allie Mac Kay was live from Los Angeles Fire Department #21 for a preview of Movember, an annual global men's health charity event.
Mark your calendars and get out those razors!  It’s time to Shave the Date. The men of LA will shave their faces today and start growing their moustache for 30 days. Movember is the global men's health charity that encourages men to grow and women to support the Mo (slang for moustache) during the month of November to raise awareness and funds for men’s health, specifically prostate and testicular cancer initiatives.
Movember is partnering with local barbershops and businesses, such as The Art of Shaving store locations in Beverly Hills and Sherman Oaks, to provide Mo Bros with free shave downs to start the month clean shaven before growing out a moustache for the 30 days of November. To find the nearest Shave the Date celebration, visit the events page.
Participation is easy. Men and women register at to grow or support the Mo. As stated in the rules of Movember, men start the first of November clean shaven and grow their moustache for 30 days, getting friends, family and colleagues to donate and support their Mo-growing efforts.
In the U.S., funds raised are directed to programs run by Movember and its men’s health partners, Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF) and LIVESTRONG Foundation. These programs support a broad range of innovative, world-class programs in the areas of awareness and education, survivorship and research.
On Movember 1st, Shave the Date participants are encouraged to shave down to grow a Mo and use the hashtags #Movember and #ShavetheDate when sharing event updates and photos on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pintrest (@Movember) and other social media.
