CHATSWORTH -- Police say an 11-year-old boy who disappeared while taking out the trash in Chatsworth has been found safe.
Cody Burton apparently walked to a friend's house in Woodland Hills and spent the night, police said.
The boy was reported missing after he left his apartment at 10210 Eton Ave Sunday evening about 6:30 p.m. Sunday just after taking out the trash.
He did not return and had no contact with his mother all night.
"I'm really hoping that somebody didn't grab my son," Cody's mother Kimberly Burton told KTLA during the search.
"This is not in his character. He doesn't do stuff like this. He is always home."
Kimberly Burton says her son is not familiar with the neighborhood because they have only been living in the area for two weeks.
"I just want my son home," she said.
LAPD officials say it was discovered around 7:30 a.m. Monday that the boy had spent the night at a friend's house.
