More than 30 teams compete in a series of obstacles and puzzles through the heart of Hermosa Beach to raise money for the Golden Heart Ranch, a non-profit organization dedicated to special needs young adults with developmental disabilities.

Irish dancers, musicians and a bagpipe band will get you on the good foot at the 8th Annual Celtic Concert at the Ford Amphitheater. Also on the bill, the Browne Sisters and George Cavannaugh with Skelpin and the Ploughboys to benefit for the Celtic Arts Center.

MEX/LA: "Mexican" Modernism(s) in Los Angeles, 1930-1985 opens at the Museum of Latin American Art. This unprecedented collaboration, initiated by the Getty, brings together more than sixty cultural institutions from across Southern California for six months beginning October 2011 to tell the story of the birth of the LA art scene. Sunday there is a panel discussion at 2pm including the exhibition's curators, who will sign copies of the exhibition catalogue at the Museum Store after the discussion.

And, don't forget there are lots of gentle giants to see close to the California coast. Whale watchers report the unusual sighting of many of the world's largest animal. Researchers report having seen the creatures as long as a basketball court uh--courting. Blues whales were nearly driven to extinction in the 1900s by whalers after their blubber for oil. They're slowly recovering. An estimated 2,500 are thought to travel back and forth along West Coast, usually much farther out at sea.
