HEMET, Calif. -- A Highway Patrol officer got quite a surprise after pulling over a suspected drunken driver near Hemet earlier this week and found a goat riding shotgun.

The officer pulled over the vehicle over on Tuesday night near East Mayberry Avenue and Girard Street south of Florida Avenue in Valle Vista

Inside the officer found two men and a goat.

The second man in the truck tried to run away "but fell flat on his face," said John Welsh, spokesman for Riverside County Animal Services.

Welsh says that neither man claimed he owned the goat, which led authorities to believe it may have been stolen.

The goat is currently at a shelter.
