NEW YORK -- Christie Hefner, daughter of Hugh, is stepping down from her position as the chairman and chief executive of Playboy Enterprises, the company said Monday.
Playboy Enterprises Inc. has named Director Jerome Kern as interim non-executive chairman while it searches for Christie Hefner's replacement. Hefner will serve as CEO until Jan. 31, 2009.
In October, Playboy, citing the troubled economy, said it was going to cut 55 employees and eliminate 25 vacant positions.
Christie Hefner joined Playboy in 1975 and was made CEO in 1988.
She will retain her position on the Playboy board until a new CEO joins the company.
