Car crashes into business in Jefferson Park (KTLA-TV / April 1, 2011)

JEFFERSON PARK (KTLA) -- A crash sent a car flying into a check cashing business in Jefferson Park, narrowly missing employee who were inside the building.

The accident happened just before midnight on Adams Street.

Police say a driver in a Nissan Altima was headed westbound on Adams when he gunned it to make a light. The light turned red, and, as the driver passed through the intersection, he hit a Chevy Impala.

The Impala was sent crashing into the check cashing store.

Firefighters had to used the jaws of life to extract the female driver of the Impala from her car. She was taken to a local hosptial with non-life-threatening injuries.

Employees who were inside the business at the time of the accident said they scattered in all directions to avoid being hit.

"A car accident hit... and we thought nothing of it, but next thing you know, a car was coming inside there," witness Reggie Hendrix said. "I'm bobbing and weaving. Then she just hit, and I jumped out of the way."

Police say the driver of the Altima initially fled the scene, but was arrested several blocks away on suspicion of felony hit and run.
