RANCHO MIRAGE -- Contestants were lining up to take part in the Miss California USA pageant in Rancho Mirage Saturday and Sunday.

About 150 women will vie to replace the 2009 crown-holder, Tami Farrell, who picked up the title after Carrie Prejean was dethroned last year following an alleged breach of contract with the organizer. (Prejean also made big news for her public stance against same-sex marriage).

The televised finals at The Show at Agua Caliente Casino Resort Spa will happen from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., when the pool will be trimmed to 15.

In an unusual move, organizers announced they will choose two winners this year. Miss California Teen USA is also crowned annually, so it's not clear if the promoters are issuing a third crown or if they're engaged in a publicity stunt.

"Pageant officials did not confirm if it was a proactive response to the controversy of the last year," reads a Miss California pageant statement, "but instead asked viewers to tune in live to see for themselves."

The promoters also said they will do away with sashes and "swimsuit uniforms" in favor of a more high-fashion look.

"We're taking a new look at a traditional idea and energizing it for 2010," said the pageant's executive director, Keith Lewis.
