MONTEREY PARK -- An overturned big rig that created a traffic nightmare has been cleared off the westbound Pomona (60) Freeway.

The dairy truck crashed shortly before 6 a.m. at Atlantic Boulevard in the Monterey Park area, according to California Highway Patrol Officer Krystal Carter.

Five westbound lanes were blocked for nearly three hours, leaving only the far right lane available to traffic. As a result, traffic backed up for miles on the freeway.

There was no immediate word on what caused the driver to lose control. He escaped with minor injuries.

CHP reported all lanes open shortly before 9 a.m.
