LOS ANGELES -- A brush fire in Malibu last night turned into a murder investigation.

A man's body has been found inside a burned-out vehicle near Malibu.

Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Ricardo Pedroza says firefighters responded to a report of a vehicle fire Tuesday night at Topanga Canyon Boulevard, about a mile from Pacific Coast Highway.

Two dozen city and county firefighters and two water-dropping helicopters put the fire -- which burned about a quarter-acre -- out relatively quickly.

Crews were about to tow the car away when a human body was discovered in the trunk.

Authorities have not identified the remains.

Arson and homicide detectives are investigating.
