AZUSA, Calif. (KTLA) -- A 16-year-old boy died early Sunday morning after the car he rode in missed a turn and plunged off a winding mountain road, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The boy, of Duarte, was ejected from the Honda sedan, California Highway Patrol officials said.

Alex Rodriguez, 20, also of Duarte was driving the car about 1 a.m. on San Gabriel Mountain Road and lost control. The car fell about 100 feet down an embankment.

Paramedics took Rodriguez and an unidentified teenage girl to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

CHP officers are investigating if drugs or alcohol played a role in the wreck.
