WEST LOS ANGELES -- A man was killed in an accident on the San Diego (405) Freeway in West Lost Angeles early Saturday, prompting a SigAlert that shut down five northbound lanes.

The accident happened on the northbound 405 just south of Culver Boulevard at 5:34 a.m., according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash involved at least two vehicles, and one man, between the ages of 30 and 35, was declared dead at the scene, according to CHP Officer Jose Nunez.

It was unknown how many other people were injured or the extent of their injuries.

A SigAlert was issued at 5:55 a.m., closing five of the six northbound lanes, Nunez said. They remained closed until about 10:00 a.m.

Traffic was slowly recovering by mid-morning, according to Nunez.

The crash occurred near the site of another accident two weeks ago, when CHP motorcycle officer Phillip Ortiz was critically injured after being struck by a motorist on the freeway shoulder.

The crash is under investigation.
