VENICE, Calif. (KTLA) -- A 19-year-old alleged gang member was charged Thursday in connection with the shooting deaths of two men at a park in Venice.
Michael Mariscal, 19, was charged with two counts of capitol murder Thursday in the fatal shooting 18-year-old Salvador Diaz and 19-year-old Alan Mateo at Penmar Park in Venice on June 22.
All three victims were sitting on bleachers next to a baseball field when the shooting happened.
Diaz was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mateo was taken to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.
One other man was wounded in the incident.
Both were set to graduate from Venice High School this month.
The third victim's identity has not been released for safety reasons. He was taken to a local hospital in stable condition after being hit in the leg while trying to run away.
Detectives believe the shooting was gang-related.
