SAN DIEGO -- The San Diego auditions for the 11th season of "American Idol'' are slated to be aired this Sunday on Fox 5.
The local auditions will be aired in a special episode after the NFC Championship game between the New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers, according to American Idol's website. The show is tentatively schedule to start at 7 p.m.
An estimated 9,000 hopefuls jammed Petco Park last July to be vetted for a chance to sing before Idol judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler. In October, those who made the cut sang for the celebrity judges aboard the USS Midway.
The last time "American Idol'' producer held auditions in San Diego was in 2007, when an estimated 12,000 people packed into Qualcomm Stadium.
