I know...I know...we're just half way through this year, but I must say...next Tuesday the album of the year (at least for me) may just be coming out. With Memorial Day, I’ll not be on the 4 o’clock doing album reviews but there is so much great music coming out next week I couldn’t help but write a blog for you. Here are my top 4 picks for album releases on Tuesday, May 29:
- Sigur Ros’ Valtari is by far my most anticipated album of the year. I’ve listened to it in its entirety and all I can is…my goodness. Yet again, another favorite album by my favorite band. This may, in time, move up to number one for album of the year (contending Jack White’s Blunderbuss). This albums has already made me cry…need I say more?
- Edward Sharpe & the Magnetic Zeros’ Here - Last Christmas, my brothers and I introduced my mother to the song “Home.” It in turn became her song of the year (despite it being a year old). One thing I wasn’t expecting, to be honest, was my mother getting into indie rock. That being said, this album is one I’m looking forward to sharing with my mother, and who knows, maybe we’ll have a family dance hour next weekend!
- Scissor Sisters’ Magic Hour - My first encounter with the Scissor Sisters was a Youtube video of a live performance. While just listening to the Scissor Sisters isn’t quite the same, it cannot be argued that they are at in the very least great party tunes. This is one I’ll look for live performances of rather than the studio version.
- Regina Spektor’s What We Saw from the Cheap Seats – Admitedly, I’m not the biggest Regina Spektor fan but must say there are tracks of hers I’ve truly enjoyed. This album, I’m sure, will stand up to all of her previous works, but I will pick the album over, probably coming out with a handful of good tracks.
Have a safe Memorial Day and you can look forward to coming back to work with some new tunes!
