Here's something that might surprise you: when it comes to computer security, U.S. consumers are among the worst in the world at keeping their PCs protected. McAfee, the software security giant, says nearly 20% of Americans cruising the web do so without any virus or malware protection installed on their PCs.
One reason for the lack of security is a lax sense of security among us cocky Americans - a belief that individuals aren't as likely to be targets for hackers as much as larger corporate servers - a belief that could lead to trouble.
The nation topping the list with the best PC security: Finland, with more than 90% of Finns sporting some sort of active virus protection. The worst: Singapore bringing up the rear with nearly 22% of PCs unprotected. Of course, we're not far behind. And with plenty of free anti-virus protection available on-line, there's not many excuses to go commando on the world-wide-web.
