Yao officially retired in July, but at the time the soft-spoken giant had little to say about why he retired other than mentioning his chronic injuries.
Yao has since given us a bit more insight into why he won't be donning a Rockets jersey in November, assuming that the current NBA lockout ends.
Yao says he has a desire to go to college, something he never got to do before starting his professional basketball career.
He also wants to spend more time with his foundation to educate children in China.
An interesting fact: Hakeem Olajuwon won the NBA Championship for the Rockets in 1994 at the age of 31.
Yao Ming is retiring at the age of 30.
Could the retirement be coming before his prime?
