Now this is the kind of research we like hearing about. Drink up because it’s good for your bones. But sorry guys, this one's just for the ladies.
A study published in the journal Menopause says moderate doses of alcohol keeps women`s bones healthy.
The study included healthy postmenopausal women under the age of 65, just at the age at which the risk for osteoporosis and fractures starts to rise.
All of the women were daily or near-daily moderate drinkers, having one-half to two standard drinks per day.
Participants were asked to stop drinking for two weeks.
"Based on this study alcohol reduces bone loss by reducing the turnover that is elevated following menopause,” said Ursula Iwaniec, the study’s author.
When the subjects resumed their normal drinking habits, the bone turnover rates returned to previous levels. Get this, within less than 24 hours.
So ladies, guess you can’t go wrong with a White Russian. Cause we now know milk and alcohol does the body good!
