ORLANDO, FL—The defense in the Casey Anthony murder trial came to a rest.
The young woman accused of killing her two-year-old daughter will not testify in her own defense. That means the defense`s claim that little Caylee drowned in the family pool will go unsubstantiated.
Prosecutors claim Anthony killed her daughter by suffocating her with duct tape.
The use of duct tape came into question earlier in the day when the defense called Casey`s mom, dad and brother to the stand to talk about how the family buried their pets.
Attorney: Was the dog wrapped in a blanket?
George Anthony: To the best of my recollection... Probably... Yes.
Attorney: Was the dog then placed in a plastic bag.
George Anthony: I don't remember that exactly, but the dog was deceased and the dog was taken to our home and placed there.
Attorney: Was it also wrapped in duct tape?
George Anthony: Sir, I have no idea... You're going back almost 30 years, sir.
It might seem bizarre that the defense would even bring up past dead pets, but little Caylee`s remains were found in a similar state and the defense is trying to establish that Casey`s father, George Anthony, helped cover up the death.
Also taking the stand was George Anthony`s alleged mistress.
Krystal Holloway claims that while she worked as a volunteer to search for Caylee George revealed a secret.
“He had said it was an accident that snowballed out of control,” said Holloway.
Holloway then admitted to prosecutors that the National Enquirer paid her $4,000 to tell her story.
George Anthony has repeatedly denied having an intimate relationship with her.
The case will soon be in the hands of the jury and it will be up to those 12 people to decide Casey`s fate.
If she is found guilty of first-degree murder she could get the death penalty.
