Seth MacFarlane will be hosting the 85th Academy Awards in February. Shocking isn't it? Although shock maybe an understatement.

If you're a fan of his work, you're probably wondering how this guy got drafted for the gig.

"I know Seth Macfarlane, so I'm definitely watching the Oscars," said Andre Uriah, an obvious fan.

If you're not a fan of his dirty cartoon comedies, your question may be, "Seth who?"

That's was Bill Preston's reaction to the news. "I'm an old guy. I've heard the name, but I'm not sure exactly who he is."

That may be because Seth MacFarlane's voice is more recognizable than his name or face. He's best known for his voice over work and raunchy sense of humor on shows like Family Guy, American Dad and The Cleveland Show.

He's dabbled in the hosting thing too a bit, recently on Saturday Night Live and Charlie Sheen's roast on Comedy Central.

But this? The Oscars? The most traditional and perhaps stuffy of all the award shows. Could be tough for MacFarlane to be himself up there.

The shock factor may be what the show’s producers are looking for. One of the producers said people know exactly what the show will be like with certain people. The fact that you don't really know what to expect from this guy gives the element of surprise.

That could be a double-edged sword.

Preston said he may make him not watch. "I like Billy Crystal, I like a lot of the guys they've had on there. If it gets crude and rude we'll turn it off.

Whereas Uriah may only tune in to see the host. "If it was somebody else, I probably wouldn't watch it. I like to laugh. At least there will be some humor, right."

Either way we're all in for something different. If we watch?!
