My name is Jennifer and the absolute love of my life is Neal. Neal and I met back in November, 2008 at work. I was new there, and the first time I saw him, I immediately went weak at the knees. Being the boss’s daughter though, there was a lot at stake for him – Oops. We flirted some, but it wasn’t until February when I moved from Lewisville to Bedford that I started seeing him outside of work. He lived in Hurst which was right down the street from me. One February night, he came over and it we’ve been together ever since. We hit our rough patches in the beginning but I never gave up on him. We have now been together for 3 years.
But that’s not where the story ends. Here is my perfect proposal. It was Sunday, August 15th, 2010, a beautiful day. Neal insisted that Saturday night he wanted to take me out for breakfast the next morning. I was expecting to be able to sleep in, wake up and then enjoy a nice breakfast with my man. (Of course, I had no idea where we were going for breakfast, he would not tell me.) I was then jolted out of bed by our usual alarm at 5:00am. Thinking that we had only forgot to turn it off, I insisted that we shut it off, and go back to sleep. That was hardly the case when Neal pushed me out of bed and told me to jump in the shower. Dazed and confused, I gave up a little bit of fight and began questioning him, but jumped in the shower and proceeded to get ready. After both of us were ready, we got into Neal’s truck and were on our way. By this time, I’m hungry and really need some coffee. We drove for about 10 minutes while Neal assured me we were almost there. We turn the corner into a Starbucks… A STARBUCKS?! At this time, I’m really concerned for his wellbeing since I was up so early, unable to sleep in, freshly showered, all just to go to Starbucks. We ordered our coffee and two orders of banana nut bread and ate our “breakfast.” I’m constantly questioning him and wondering what is going on. I wasn’t shocked, when he wouldn’t tell me what was under his sleeve.
Finally after being on the verge of passing out, he tells me we aren’t actually going skydiving. See back in February, 2010 on Valentine’s Day, I gave Neal a scenic flight around DFW for two. We both love to fly. This is what we were doing. BUT, I didn’t know it at the time because the reservation I had made was for Addison Airport not Dallas Executive. I had no idea. We sat down with the pilot, plotted our route and proceeded to jump in the small plane. We geared up in our headphones and microphones and proceeded to take off. It was absolutely awesome and beautiful. We flew over the new Cowboys Stadium, over downtown Dallas, and over downtown Fort Worth. My eyes are glued out the window and I’m just soaking the view in. Mind you, I hadn’t flown in over 10 years up until this point. At the exact moment we were flying over Fort Worth, Neal taps on my knee, I look over and he says, “Will you marry me?” He pulls out this beautiful ring and places it on my finger. Then the tears start flowing again and of course all I can say is “Yes” over and over again. The pilot then congratulates us; they were in on it too. It was an amazing experience.
About 15 minutes later we were back on the ground, newly engaged and with a memory of a lifetime. Neal is the only man who has ever supported me through every decision I have made and has been there for me through many tough times. I can’t wait to continue the memories with him and I can’t wait to be his wife. It’s been an amazing journey so far.
