DALLAS, TEXAS—The NFL's all-time rushing leader took another step toward the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton today. Emmitt Smith is one of 25 semi-finalists announced today.
Emmitt is considered a shoe in for election in his first year of eligibility after setting the NFL rushing record of 18,355 yards, breaking Walter Payton's mark on October 27th, 2002. He is the only running back to win the MVP, Super Bowl MVP and NFL Rushing crown in the same season.
This list of 25 semifinalists will be trimmed to the 15 finalists on January 7th and then between 4 and 7 men will be earn election to the Hall of Fame on February 6th, the day before Super Bowl XLIV in South Florida.
