Even though March doesn't arrive until next week, please excuse me for getting a jump on March Madness tonight.  We will have a feature on the state's #1 ranked team in 4A, the Carter Cowboys.   The school is known for its football prowess but in his third year as head coach, Robert Allen has built this squad into a favorite to win its very first basketball state title.

The Cowboys were 30-3 and finished 13-1 in one of the toughest districts in the state, 11-4A.  The guards who engineer the high octane offense are first cousins, Dre Evans and Jarvis Phillips who have been playing ball together since first grade and their chemistry is apparent.  Another big part of this team is 6-11 power forward Jarred Shaw who will play ball at Oklahoma State next year.

I was impressed with how polite Coach Allen, his assistant Coach Barnett, and the three players we interviewed,  were to us.  They really made us feel welcome which was certainly a nice change after most professional athletes would rather the media just stay away.  All of these men made sure to come and shake our hands when we were leaving and thank us for coming to tell their story, and you'll see it tonight at 9pm on the 33 News.
