organization: The ALS Association Texas Chapter/Walk to Defeat ALS
date: November 10
location: Quiktrip Park in Grand Prairie
Dallas-Fort Worth’s 13th annual Walk to Defeat ALS, will take place on November 10, 2012 at 11:00am at QuikTrip Park in Grand Prairie. The 5K walk is open to the public and all funds raised will be donated to The ALS Association Texas Chapter, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to finding the cause and cure of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease, is a devastating and always fatal neuromuscular disease. Until a cure is found, over 30,000 Americans living today will die from ALS. The financial cost to families of persons with ALS can be up to $200,000 per year, depleting the entire savings of relatives and patients. While patients receive important assistance through the equipment loan closet and clinic services, very often the most rewarding service can be found through the ALS Association’s support groups.
Registration for this year’s walk begins at 10:00 am the day of the event with pre-Walk entertainment beginning at 9:00 am, but advance online registration is available. In addition to the walk, this year’s event will also feature children’s activities, a variety of family entertainment and a post-walk cook out. Participants can also sign advocacy petitions as part of the organization’s work to bring the importance of ALS research to the attention of officials at all levels of government.
