Ken Griffey Junior returned to the Mariners as a special consultant Tuesday, but not before addressing why he left the team unexpectedly last season.

Griffey said that he left the team because he felt like he was a distraction and that he was scared people close to him would've tried to talk him out of retirement if he held a press conference.

Griffey and former M's manager Don Wakamatsu still haven't spoken since Griffey left the M's. He is now a special consultant to the team.
